In a world of shareable shots, how do you make your photos stand out from the crowd? For those of us unable to fill our feeds with globe-trotting galleries and inspiring images, filtering techniques can help elevate your uploads. And, crucially, you don’t have to rely on the same preset filters as everyone else.

As well as giving you access to more than seven million existing photo filters, with Infltr you can create your own image overlays for an eye-catching finish that’s unique to you. Follow these tips and you’ll quickly crank up your Instagram game to 11.

Having tapped an image to open it, pressing the edit button will start you on the path to an enhanced image.
In the edit window, the left-most button (a grey-filled circle) lets you add pre-existing filters to your image and edit them. Just slide your finger over the image to see changes in real time. If you want to freestyle from the start, the scrollable menu of more than 20 tools offers a plethora of editing options.
With tools and effects able to be layered up, here we’ve reduced the temperature and saturation, made contrast and tint increases and added both a highlights tint and a colour overlay. These are just a few of the possible editing options – you could also add grain effects and shadow tints among others.
Once you’re happy with your new effect, tapping back on the original filter button gives you the option to press the plus symbol and save your filter, meaning you can instantly apply the same look to future images.
To save your filter, all you need to do is give it a name and tap the tick.
With your creation saved, uploading a new image and tapping the filter button will see your custom filter presented front and centre. While you can tap to add it, once applied, this filter can be tweaked and tinkered with as you see fit for your current shot while retaining a bespoke look that’s sure to be a social hit.
