You’ve added Snapchat filters and lenses to your photos and video for years now, but did you know you can customize one for your own events? These location-locked, time-specific filters are a fun way to give Snaps and Stories taken at your wedding, birthday, baby shower, or weekend shindig a personal touch.

To start, head to the Settings screen by tapping your user icon in the upper left corner, followed by the gear icon in the upper right. Then select Filters & Lenses.

Find filter options within your Snapchat settings.

From here, tap Get Started! and choose either Filter or Lens. A filter is like a frame with fun doodles, stickers, and text. A lens adds cool interactive elements, like a crown of flowers or a background of sparkly stars. We chose Filter.

Find the right lens for you.

Snapchat has a variety of filter categories to choose from. In Weddings, you’ll find ones adorned with flowers and lace. The Birthdays filter has festive options with plenty of balloons and cake. Head to the Game Day section for sports-centric picks.

There are filters to suit every celebration.

After you’ve selected your filter, add text by tapping the large T in the upper right corner of the screen. To edit any existing text, just tap it.

Customize the text on your filter as you please.

Want to decorate with stickers, emoji, photo cutouts, or your own bitmoji? Tap the sticker icon in the upper right corner. Every sticker can be dragged, resized, and rotated however you like.

Make sure you pick the perfect unicorn sticker.

Next, set a start and end time for your geofilter—from a minimum of one hour to multiple days (perfect for your family reunion weekend).

Scroll to set the start and end dates for access to your filter.

Almost done! Now just draw an area on a map that you want your geofilter restricted to. You can set a small spot, or pinch in on your screen to quickly select a larger area.

Drag the anchor point to create your geo-fence.

From here, all that’s left is to name your filter and tap Purchase to place your order. Your geofilter will now pop up for any Snapchat users who are in the right place at the right time.
