HEALTH DATA

Collection of Health data such as calories burned and heart rate requires an Apple Watch or other Apple Health connected device.

BATTERY USE

Arc is only awake and using GPS when you are active and moving. For the rest of the day Arc stays in a low power sleep mode, with GPS turned off, to conserve battery.

On a typical day of two to three hours of travel a single full battery charge should last from morning to evening without requiring extra recharging during the day. However longer trips (for example a long hike or cross country drive) may consume more than expected battery, due to Arc needing to be awake and recording, with GPS activated, for the duration of the trip.

For longer trips, I recommend plugging your phone into a car charger or battery pack, to avoid unpleasant battery surprises.

Worse with each update.

Last update bring paywall, so previously free app become paid. It’s ok, developer put a lot effort to build it for sure. Unfortunately the app started to crash regularly. Then, this update added dark mode, which does not work. All screens have white background. The map is black, switching it back to light mode in the settings does nothing. I’m no longer able to switch the map style either. So, previously free, stable app, that I relied on, now is paid and buggy. Please fix the bugs, or revert the app to previous version. Keep it paid, that’s totally fine, but don’t destroy the product by asking users to pay, while introducing bugs witch every new update.

Developer Response ,

Hi!

Arc's recent releases are the most stable the app has ever been. If you are having crashes you should post a description of the problem on the support forum (https://support.bigpaua.com) so we can work through the problem on your device.

If you have concerns about the Dark Mode, again those are best discussed on the support forum, where we can work through your concerns.

Paywalled me from my data

I used it for about two years without issue as I was finally gapy to see an app that isn't just ficused on earning money. Where you could support the dev if you wanted. Today I launch it and there's a paywall. And it asks ridiculous prices. No access to my two years of data without paying. No further access to location tracking without paying. Sens kinda scammy to suddenly introduce something like that without any warning or even ability to get my old data. Anyways the entire subscription business model doesn't make sense here. The app runs locally, it isn't a service. I'd gladly pay once for it, but I am not going to pay a monthly or yearly fee. Overall extremely disappointed.

Developer Response ,

What universe do you live in, the Star Trek universe? Because the one I live in has capitalism, and if I don't charge money for my labour I can't buy food and pay rent.

The app has always existed to make money, because that's how I stay alive and not dying homeless on the street.

The free tier of the app is no longer financially viable, because expenses have gone up. I can't afford to keep paying the bills for free users. Keep in mind that you say you've used the app for free for 2 years, which means I've been paying for that for you, for 2 years. Everything is being paid for by someone, and if you're not paying for it yourself, in this case I was paying for it for you. Instead of thanking me for that you've given me a 1 star review. Charming.

As to your data, start a 30 day free trial, export your data, then cancel your trial.
