Description

This app is aimed at animal professionals, curators, private holders, students, or horticulturists involved in providing fresh plant material for animal feeding. A paid subscription, monthly or annual, is required to gain access.
Subscriptions will renew automatically, unless cancelled via your account settings.

This app should not be seen as a sole plant identification app! We can’t compete with the many apps available that cover thousands of species across the world. This app is primarily about finding plants suitable to feed to animals, not identifying every single plant on the planet. We simply don’t have the resources.

Plants that are currently covered in our booklets and posters are included in this app and are mainly plants native to Europe. We have added a few plants that are either familiar or commonly used as browse in other continents. We have also added some toxic plants for identification as well.

We will continuously work on increasing the plant list, especially with plants that are native to North America before moving to New Zealand, Australia and eventually China and Japan!
Please be patient while this work is carried out as we have full-time jobs, and all work is carried out in our spare time.

Features:
-Tree ID by Feature: use the feature key to narrow down your search if you are unsure of the identity of a tree or shrub. You can search by leaf, bud, bark and fruits. At the end of each category, you can add another feature.

-Wildflower ID by Feature: identifying wildflowers is a very complex and scientific subject. We have tried to simplify it as much as possible to help narrow down your search.

-Plants For My Animal: if you want to search for plants suitable for a particular animal species, choose an animal group and then a subgroup where applicable. The result list is grouped in Trees & Shrubs, Wildflowers & Herbs, Reeds & Grasses.

-A-Z: if you know the name of the plant, you can look it up here. The plants are grouped in Trees & Shrubs, Wildflowers & Herbs, Reeds & Grasses.

-Search: you can search by common name or botanical name (please note that many plants can have multiple common names) or find plant species that are native/naturally occurring by continent.

-My Saved Plants: if there are plant species you use often, you can press the green leaf outline next to the plant name on the plant page to save it to your phone or tablet.

-Plant Toxicity Info: here you can read about plant toxicity and how they work, learn a little bit about how animals mitigate the exposure to toxic plants in the wild and how that knowledge is transferred to captive management.

Please note that only plants that are currently covered in the app are available in the search function and feature keys!

The individual plant pages contain a description of the species, information on any toxicity & hazards, and feeding guidelines according to different animal groups (where applicable).
These guidelines are based on a traffic light system:

Green: safe to feed as part of a varied diet
Yellow: feed in moderation
Amber: feed sparingly
Red: avoid if possible or do not feed at all

We strongly advise you to read the Toxicity & Hazards section for each plant species before going to the feeding guidelines as that will help you make an informed decision on how to feed the plant to your particular animal.
