Editors’ Notes

It’s hard to make the best even better, but the sequel to Day One lives up to expectations—and then some. The app keeps its interface streamlined but adds a wealth of new valuable features. Your journal entries contain all sorts of information—you can geolocate them, add tons of photos to each entry, and even see your day’s fitness activity. Switch over to the beautiful new photo view when you’re ready to see your world at a glance.

One Day Premium

worth paying subscription. for the modest yearly value the subscriber supports developping team.
sound recording up to 90 minutes really helps when on meetings and seminars. Very well integrated Apple Watch application, handy and usefull, perfect sync between devices including audio recordings and puctures. higly recommended,
I would appratiate text enhancements one day

Not secure and expensive

From support: "All of your data is stored locally. The passcode can be set to prevent access to viewing your data in the app itself.

The files and folders can be accessed without the app, yes. That is how the data is currently stored. We recommend using different user profiles if sharing a computer. You can also enable FireVault to encrypt all of your data."

The same is true for iOS, presumably, although would require jailbreaking to gain access (easily and commonly done). Consider if you feel it's OK that your entries, including photos and audio, are stored in plain sight before subscribing.

I give the app a star for being a pleasure to use and another for the responsive support. I take one each away for storing entries as plain text, the high price and the lack of some basic features that should be present by now, especially for the price such as video. I'm looking forward to all these things being worked on and being able to give it two more stars.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your review. Your local data is encrypted by iOS. We also provide full end-to-end encryption as an option for your data synced to Day One Sync. Please see here: http://help.dayoneapp.com/day-one-sync/end-to-end-encryption-faq
