Roses, carnations, daisies, sunflowers, lilies… the explosion of colours and textures found in a bunch of flowers can be spectacular. But when you want to capture a photo of all of those elements together, it can be tricky to get the perfect composition.

Typic 2 can help to make your flower photos truly bloom on social media. So we talked to the app’s creator Margarita Acosta, Colombian designer at Hi Mom studio. Here are her simple tips to make your snaps shine.

First, the colours

If your photo is crowded with flowers (a likely scenario if you’re at a flower festival), then give the Color Boost filter category a try. With 10 options, this is where you set the tone of your picture. “If your composition looks pale, apply Color Boost to make it more vivid,” says Acosta. “If it looks good already, you can also apply it to give more strength to the colours.”

Tune, tune, tune

Next try the Filter Intensity option to graduate the saturation. “The adjustments must be subtle, little by little,” Acosta says. “You can make the colours look exaggerated as in a fairytale, or look more realistic. It’s your choice.”

A little bit of contrast

If you decide to give your photos a more realistic touch, use the Contrast function. “This functionality helps colours stand out from one another by increasing the difference between dark and light, making the photo look more real.”

The nuances

Depending on where the photo was taken, you may want to add some context. The heat of the Caribbean or a chilly mountaintop? On the Temperature option, tap to the right to add warmth to your pictures or to the left to make the colours a bit blueish and cooler.

All set

That didn’t take long, did it? Just three minutes and your picture is now ready to blossom in the realm of social media. Just press the share button and see how others honour your photographic flair with a follow!
