Jurassic World Alive
Discover Jurassic Dinosaurs!
There's a tyrannosaurus rex near you. You might not know it yet, but soon not only will you hear its ferocious roar but also be able to sample its DNA, breed your very own dinosaur and send it into battle.
Welcome to the Augmented Reality (AR) game Jurassic World Alive, which brings location-based dinosaur capture to a park near you.
You'll get to grips with Jurassic World Alive quickly if you've played similar monster-catching games. To track down these giant beasts you're going to have to trek around, iPhone in hand, just like in Pokémon GO. When you find a dinosaur, you can deploy a virtual drone to capture its DNA.
Splice a few genes
Once you've collected enough DNA samples, you can head to the Creation Lab by tapping the Collection tab. Here you'll get a close look at each dinosaur so you can assess their strengths and weaknesses for the battles to come.
Whenever possible, those traits are based on the latest paleontological research, with the hybrids you create sharing the original dinosaurs’ characteristics. You can even evolve your dinos into “super hybrids” – hybrids of hybrids. Life, uh... finds a way.
Head into battle
When you've collected at least four dinosaurs, you'll be able to pit them against other players' stables. The team with the right mix of strength and health will often prevail – so it's important to find the right balance. The Euoplocephalus' strong defense makes it a solid pick, for example, while the Velociraptor's speed is unmatched.
Each battle level has its own beautifully illustrated environment, evocative of the movie series' settings. Win three of these real-time battles and you unlock new arenas and dinosaurs for your Creation Lab.
Now tell the world
You can also share a video of that time you found a raptor in your driveway. In the Collection tab, select a dino, tap 'AR' and head to a well-lit spot. You'll see the dinosaur beamed into your environment through your iPhone's screen.
You can scale it – so that it looms over your house – or shrink it so it is small enough to sit on your sofa. Tapping will make your dino pet smash its teeth and swing its tail – so the name Jurassic World Alive couldn’t be more apt.
