It’s movie night, but what should you watch? Before you sacrifice precious viewing time browsing options, try Amazon Prime Video. It features countless classic movies and TV shows, but there’s also a swathe of original content that is going down a storm with audiences.

Take the solid crime drama Bosch, an actual viewers’ choice: users picked it amongst a number of pilots that Amazon initially proposed, asking which one merited at least a full season. Or six.

Other Amazon Originals include the popular The Grand Tour, The Man In the High Castle and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan. Aside from high-quality originals, Amazon Prime Video has a raft of kid-friendly movies and shows. On top of the app’s robust parental controls, different restrictions can be assigned to each registered device using one of four options: General, Family, Teen or Mature, so users can ensure children don’t stumble upon anything inappropriate.

By default, the app automatically streams at the highest video quality when you’re connected to Wi-Fi and scales down to a data-friendly “Good” quality when you’re on a cellular network. You can save more data by tweaking the Streaming Quality controls or downloading your favourite shows, while connected to Wi-Fi, for offline viewing.

What really makes Amazon Prime Video a unique platform is the X-Ray feature: just tap the screen at any point and information about the actors in the scene, the music playing and trivia about the characters will pop up. It’s like having an encyclopedic, entertainment-obsessed friend at your side while you watch, saving you the trouble of having to search for that information on the side.

To start being spoilt for entertainment choice, subscribe to Amazon Prime Video and begin your free trial. Popcorn not included.
