Costumes that tell a story

Explore the beautiful costumes found in your favourite games.

The games you love to play are full of interesting details, with the most obvious being the locations where all the action unfolds. But take a step back from the big picture, and you’ll see that there’s so much more to a game.

The look of a character is one of the most carefully thought through elements of a game and the outfits a character wears can really bring the story to life, revealing their specific role and even their personality traits.

The costumes worn by the following characters help to not only tell their stories, but also help them achieve their mission in the game.

Dandara from Dandara Trials of Fear Edition

As the world of Salt falters at the hands of evil, the chance for freedom rests on the shoulders of a female warrior named Dandara. This heroine has no shortage of skills. Aiming with her left hand at a landing spot on a ceiling or wall, she can jump anywhere; while with her right hand she can fire powerful energy bullets to defeat enemies.

Dandara Trials of Fear Edition is a thrilling game where you can control gravity and run in all directions through each stage.

Warrior Dandara’s costume is full of symbolism.

Dandara was inspired by a female warrior of the same name, Dandara of Palmares, who fought against slavery in Brazil under colonial rule. The costumes she wears in the game are also strongly influenced by the actual Dandara.

Heroine Dandara won’t give up the fight for freedom.

The real-life Dandara was a warrior skilled in the marital art of capoeira, and that’s why Dandara in the game is barefoot. What’s more, her bright yellow scarf, green pants and blue belt represent the colours of Brazil.

Peacock – Skullgirls

The brilliant battles that take place in Skullgirls really pack a punch for any fan of fast-paced RPGs. You’ll be able to choose from a collection of distinctive characters and make use of the intuitive controls to attack, guard and dish out moves by tapping and swiping.

Skullgirls centres on battles between corrupt characters intent on leading the world to destruction, and those who want to take down these enemies and restore order. And that’s where Peacock comes in – a girl who was reborn as a biomechanical weapon to fight those who want to ruin her world.

Battles are intense, but freedom is worth the fight.

In the process of Peacock’s transformation, machines were used to compensate for the loss of her body, resulting in a form that, at first glance, looks like it could appear in a cartoon.

The hat that Peacock wears is also the home of her bird, Avery.

Peacock’s appearance was inspired by American cartoons from the 1920s; she wears a hat, which was common at the time, and a pair of cartoon-style gloves. Her arms, which resemble peacock feathers, are flexible and she can move like a rubber hose, as seen in the popular rubber hose animation style of the 1920s.
