Descripción

This app was inspired by real people close to me: a close friend who lost their smell due to COVID-19, and my mother, who suffered smell loss because of allergies. Their struggles with tasting food, detecting fire or spoiled food, and feeling disconnected from everyday life deeply moved me. I built SmellSense to help people like them — and others around the world — regain their sense of smell and improve their quality of life.

SmellSense offers a structured, easy-to-use training program based on clinical research to help users gradually recover their olfactory function. It is designed for people experiencing anosmia or reduced smell due to viral infections, allergies, sinus issues, or other causes.

Features

Science-Based Smell Training
Follow a proven smell rehabilitation method involving four scents — rose, lemon, clove, and eucalyptus. Based on the clinical study by Hummel et al. (2009), this approach is used by ENT specialists worldwide.

Personalized Daily Reminders
Set reminders to practice twice daily. Consistency is key, and SmellSense helps you stay on track.

Progress Tracking
Rate the intensity and clarity of each scent after every session. Visual charts help you monitor improvements over time.

AI-Powered Suggestions
SmellSense uses on-device AI to provide motivational feedback and habit insights. No internet or data collection required.

Clean, Accessible Design
Designed with SwiftUI, SmellSense features a simple, user-friendly interface that supports both light and dark mode.

100% Privacy-Focused
We respect your privacy. SmellSense does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. All your training history and preferences stay on your device.

How It Works

Select a scent (rose, lemon, clove, or eucalyptus).
Smell it for about 20 seconds, focusing on recalling its aroma.
Rate the intensity and clarity.
Repeat twice a day.
Track your recovery over weeks or months using the built-in log.
This method encourages the regeneration of olfactory pathways and supports long-term improvement.

Who Is It For?

People recovering from COVID-related smell loss (long COVID).
Individuals with allergy-related or post-viral anosmia.
Anyone looking to support or strengthen their sense of smell.
Healthcare professionals recommending olfactory therapy tools.
