أسست الجمعية الخيرية لتحفيظ القرآن الكريم بالقنفذة عام 1421هـ ، وتم تسجيلها في وزارة الموارد البشرية والتنمية الاجتماعية بترخيص رقم (3230).
وتعمل جمعية سمو على إيصال رسالتها لجميع أطياف المجتمع من طلاب وطالبات ودارسين ودارسات وموظفين وموظفات من خلال تعلمهم للقرآن الكريم وفق منهج مدروس واستراتيجيات محددة ، وتسعى الجمعية إلى الريادة التعليمية والتربوية في العناية بالقرآن الكريم كرؤية لها وذلك عن طريق استحداث برامج تعليمية وتربوية وكوادر متميزة وتقنيات حديثة لبناء جيل قرآني متزن يتحلى بأخلاق القرآن .
