With its friendly approach and awesome updates, Duolingo’s long been one of our favorite apps for learning another language. Its secret: making the process genuinely fun. Engaging mini-games test your reading, writing, and speaking skills, and joining a club (where you can encourage and compete with others) adds a great social element. Bonus: all those languages and games are available for free!

Really nice, although there are some issues...

Duolingo is one of the best apps I have ever had! I love this way of teaching and the fact that it can make learning so fast and easy.

It also has some problems, too. I see many differences between the app and the website. Some are good and some not...

(Everything I am going to say from now applies for the Norwegian course. Maybe others don’t have these problems)

On the internet I can read the theory of the lesson, but here I can’t. I would really need it, it would help me a lot.

When I enter the website, it splits me every level of the lessons in more than 15 pieces! (not 3-4, like in the app) Because of that, it is very hard for me to complete a level. Please fix this soon!...

Besides that, there are many other features that the app/website doesn’t have, such as the health (app) and the red gems (ugh, forgot how they are called, on the website)

Duolingo is great, but I would really appreciate if I could have the ‘same’ duolingo on both computer and phone, a duolingo that doesn’t have so many differences.

However, thank you for reading this and hope duolingo will get better than before! 😊

Nice app, but beware of total waste of time

This is a very nice app/game. It will help you have a glimpse of a foreign language. And if you spend enough time (years?) even read/understand a foreign language. Make no mistake though - the focus of this app is so that you *do not* learn a foreign language to the level you will start perfecting it while speaking with foreigners. It’s focus is to keep you see ads for as long of possible. This is not a technical limitation but rather a design choice and business model. (The percent of native language to target language question is ridiculously low (max 10%) and all requests to do something about it were deflected by the team for various reasons)

Start using it, then make a calculation for yourself and see how much it will take you to complete a course. Note how bad you remain at writing/formulating sentences in the target language and decide if that time is worth wasting. Compare it to the value you would get from attending language courses, or possibly other apps focused on teaching you a language efficiently even if that means letting you go at the end.

It’s nice as a way to kill time though, like a mobile game, but more useful.
