New X update made some things worse

The new minimalistic icon redesign is a HUGE step down and I find it ugly. I mean, look at the previous Sagittarius A* art and the new “Black Hole” minimalistic icon. It’s plain awful compared to what it was before. Another example is “Stephen’s Quintet”; we know how that looks like, so why did you have to use a generic minimalistic icon when opening its respective tab?

Also, I’ve encountered a few bugs such as to not being able to rotate the planets when I go to their respective tabs, Venus’ atmosphere not dissappearing like the previous version and a lot of random stutters and lag.

Also, the “Legacy” users have absolutely no advantage over the new free users which is a slap in the face since you have 2 tiers of subscriptions now.

Overall, good improvements to graphics and effects but a huge step down in other departments.

Developer Response ,

Some of those article header image changes were intentional, others were just due to architectural changes. We’ll make note of those objects you pointed out and see if there’s opportunities for improvement.

As for differences between LAUNCH (base) tier and LEGACY, there is significant difference, notably the zoom level, star count, number of constellations, time travel and many other features. We hope to publish a table of the specific differences on our website in the near future.

Feedback is always appreciated.

Errors!

AR and giroscope do not work on iphone pro max, after the latest update!

Developer Response ,

We have not heard any other reports of problems with that device. But please see our help site regarding problems with compass heading. A particular thing to be aware of is third party magnetic attachments/cases. https://support.fifthstarlabs.com/article/4-objects-are-not-lining-up-with-their-true-positions-in-the-sky
