How are your driving skills? Good? Well, that’s not enough. In Best Rally they need to be flawless. At all times.
A simple rally game with simple controls, here your car propels itself and there are no brakes to worry about. Instead you simply tap the left side of the screen to turn left, right to turn right. But your car doesn’t just turn. It drifts. Everywhere.
Even the gentlest curve is a challenge: too much steer and you’ll be bouncing through the bushes, not enough and you’ll plough into the barriers, down a ditch or through a giant snowball – because these aren’t your typical rally levels.
All these detours effect your stage time. And time is crucial. Across more than 50 different levels you’re racing against the clock, first in order to unlock the next track, then for personal pride and bragging rights.
There are three stars on offer per level, each attached to an increasingly challenging time you’ve got to better. Acquire all three, however, and there’s an even bigger challenge to tackle.
Having shown your rallying prowess, you’re offered the chance to try beat the best time set by the game’s developers. It’s tough, at times seemingly impossible, but it can be done, and when you raise the bar you’ll get a special badge to make you feel smug.
Best Rally is the sort of game where finishing a level just isn’t enough. You’ll want to go back again and again, striving for that flawless lap.
