If you’re looking for a game that’s more than it seems on the surface, then cast a line for Fishdom.
This puzzler-cum-aquarium creator gives you a Candy Crush-style grid and asks you to match three or more different nautical-themed objects, some of which lie on specially-coloured tiles.
Match more than three items and you’ll earn explosive power moves which clear large sections of the grid. Depending on the number of items you match, these bonuses range from a firecracker up to a nuclear detonation.
Each level has to be completed within a certain number of moves, so as the challenge ramps up you’ll need those power moves. Fishdom steadily introduces new gameplay elements such as chained and silver tiles which keep things interesting and challenging without making them overwhelming.
The thing that helps Fishdom stand apart from other games of its ilk, though, is the aquarium part. Completing puzzles earns gold coins to spend on decorating your aquarium and adding new tropical fish.
With every level you complete, you return to your aquarium and get the chance to add things as well as hear encouragement from your various fishy friends. It’s an exceptionally soothing way to break up the challenge of the puzzles.
New fish, items and themes are unlocked as you complete levels so there’ll always be something to save and play for.
Seeking a colourful, personality-filled puzzle game guaranteed to get you hook, line and sinker? Feed yourself some Fishdom.
