Guitar heroes

Essential guitar apps for rocking out.

Whether you’re learning a new song at home, jamming with your friends or performing for thousands onstage, be sure to add your Mac into the mix. Plug your guitar into your Mac’s audio jack (newer models have a shared audio-in and audio-out jack) and fire up these apps.

Capo

Need to learn a new song fast? Load a recording into Capo to slow it down without affecting pitch or to repeat a section until you’ve mastered it. Capo can even analyse the audio and figure out the chords for you.

Tonebridge Guitar Effects

Instead of having you build a custom guitar-effects rig from scratch, Tonebridge helps you mimic someone else’s. Pick a favourite artist (from Arcade Fire to Zeppelin) or song, and within seconds you’ll have a similar sound that you can make your own by adjusting the sliders.

Metronome - Musicuso

Who says metronomes can’t be fun? Metronome - Musicuso puts a grinning, timekeeping character right on your Mac screen. He may be cute, but he’s no slouch when it comes to accuracy, and he handles complex rhythms with ease. Once you’ve played along to his goofy expressions, it’ll be hard to go back to a traditional clicker.

MainStage

When you’re performing onstage, you don’t want to keep the audience waiting while you fiddle with your gear. MainStage lets you preprogram custom rigs, pedalboards and sounds – putting everything right on your Mac in a full-screen, high-contrast interface that’s easy to use, no matter how dark or raucous the venue.
