What’s New

Version 1.13.0

- Collapsible Bottom Bar: The bottom bar will now collapse when you scroll down on a page, and re-expand when you scroll up — maximizing your screen space for a more immersive browsing experience.
- Adjustable % Page Zoom: Page zoom settings now show the percentage value of the zoom, making it easier to manage your view preferences with precision. Additionally, tapping the percentage value resets the zoom to 100%. To access page zoom settings, click the up arrow in the bottom right corner of the screen.
- Browse For Me Instant Answers: Members will see a short answer for certain queries seeking quick information, providing answers without needing to navigate away. Examples include, “How many feet are in 2 miles?” or “What’s $500 in Yen?”
- Ad Blocker Transparency: We now show the number of ads and trackers blocked in the footer of the Tab Controls. To view, click the up arrow in the bottom right corner of your screen while on the page with blocked ads.
- Toggle Keyboard Visibility on App Launch: Responding to popular demand, we’ve introduced a new preference setting that allows you to control whether the keyboard should automatically appear when you launch the app. To access, click the up arrow in the bottom right corner and navigate to Site Settings.
- Initial Search Suggestions: New members will now see some initial search suggestions after completing onboarding, ensuring members can hit the ground running upon joining — such as “Summarize today’s news,” “Best movies of the last decade” and more.
- Default Browser Banner: A banner that prompts you to make Arc the default browser will now appear after extended usage.

Seriously?

After the disappointment that was the previous app, you launch… this? It was practically impossible to use the previous one as a default browser, and this one isn't better in that regard.
There is no favorites or bookmark feature. Am I supposed to remember long URLs for things like my employer's scheduling webapp, to enter them everytime I want to check my schedule? Seriously? It has the star/pin/whatever feature, but that just makes a site appear at the top of the search list.

Then there also is no way to sync with the Mac version of Arc. Apparently you could figure that out in the previous app, but this one doesn't get that feature. Makes total sense to have to use two separate apps — one for accessing your saved/Mac tabs, and one for creating new tabs and properly browsing on your phone. Nevermind that Safari can do both without issue, this is the future. More apps is more.

Then there also is no compatibility with iCloud Keychain, because who needs secure passwords? Let's just pick ones we will remember in our head. Arc for Mac atleast lets us import all of them, so why is there once again no sync feature?

Oh and there is also no incognito/private browsing feature. It's the year 2024, and a mobile browser releases without a way to browse privately. Whatever you search in it will stay on the list right above your keyboard the next time you want to browse. Atleast it can automatically delete your archives tabs, I guess.

Please, just stop releasing worthless half-baked mobile browsers. Arc for Mac is a decent alternative to Safari, but the iOS messes keep many of us from switching. Take what you already have in the Mac version and just put it into an iOS app. Also, don't release it until it's finished if you don't want to call it a beta.

I love the desktop version but the iOS version is very slow
