HEALTH DATA

Collection of Health data such as calories burned and heart rate requires an Apple Watch or other Apple Health connected device.

BATTERY USE

Arc is only awake and using GPS when you are active and moving. For the rest of the day Arc stays in a low power sleep mode, with GPS turned off, to conserve battery.

On a typical day of two to three hours of travel a single full battery charge should last from morning to evening without requiring extra recharging during the day. However longer trips (for example a long hike or cross country drive) may consume more than expected battery, due to Arc needing to be awake and recording, with GPS activated, for the duration of the trip.

For longer trips, I recommend plugging your phone into a car charger or battery pack, to avoid unpleasant battery surprises.

A free trial, active subscription, or Lifetime purchase is required to use the app.

## Subscription Details

Your subscription will be charged to your iTunes account. At the end of the term your subscription will automatically renew in your iTunes account. You can turn off automatic renewal in your iTunes account settings at any time, but you must do so at least 24 hours before the end of the current term.

No, what you are saying is not true. I am a paying customer, actually. The service is great, and I totally understand why can’t offer it for free anymore. What caused me to give it a two star was that you suddenly blocked me without giving me any time to decide, or even inform me that I could start a trial and then cancel it. Another review from a “Gilad R. “ explains this very thoroughly.

There is also Arc Mini that would cover my needs but as stated before; I like Arc, I don’t mind paying for it and I will continue to do so. I just wish you would have handled the transition with a bit more transparency.

After puzzling things together from your forum and other reviews expressing concerns, and discovering the existence of Arc Mini, I have changed the review from 2 stars to 4 stars.

I just updated the app and was hit by a paywall. I don’t mind paying and supporting a product I’m using, even semi-regularly, but forcing me to do so is a very shady thing to do.

Update:

The subscriptions view states at the top that all subscriptions come with a 30 day free trial. However a lot of people are missing this, so I will make the text more bold in a future update.

The reason why I didn't give warning or explanation is because it wouldn't change the amount of abuse I would receive.

For the first several years of Arc I went out of my way to be as considerate and caring as possible, working carefully to ensure the app would be usable for people on constrained budgets or no budget at all. Indeed, when Moves app shut down and people flooded to Arc, Arc was still entirely free at that time. But I still received extremely abusive emails every day, for months.

Since then I have continued to receive steady abuse, from entitled and selfish people who demand everything and will pay nothing. I am burnt out. No matter how much I smile and bow, I will be abused.

So my stance now is to do what needs to be done, then hunker down and wait out the storm. There's no avoiding the storm, and efforts to appease people beforehand are mostly useless, so I don't try to justify that emotional labour anymore.

Is it blunt? A bit harsh? Sure. But you know what's 1000 times more harsh? The ... I get in my email every day.

As to how I respond to the nasty reviews, I think of it like this: If I ran a cafe, and someone came into my cafe and demanded free food every day and got aggressively angry if I refused, I would tell them in the strongest words to get out of my shop and don't come back. It is right to do the same here.

You have the choice to export your data and leave. No one is forcing you to use my app.

If what you really mean is you want to be able to continue using the app for free, then please consider that everything has to be paid for by someone, and your free use of the app was paid for by me, out of my pocket.

I can't afford to continue paying for free users - expenses are too high now. But instead of people thanking me for the years of free use, I get nasty reviews. Such charming people.

Hi! Please post a description of the problem on the support forum (https://support.bigpaua.com), where I can work through the problem with you. Arc's activity type classification is, to my knowledge, the most accurate available on iPhone. So if it is making frequent obvious mistakes, something isn't working right.

Also, please do update to the new Arc App release that just went live today (Arc 3.8.0), which includes a new activity classifier engine, with even greater accuracy.
