good but boost fail

I really like this game, it is fun to play but one thing is really frustrating which is:

When you do the challenge and you need to get a special boost for instance the golden 2X and you need to get them 8 times. It is many times where I try to make it work but, the golden 2X never shows up as a boost to press on or when it shows I cant press on it, even if I have many boost storaged.

I dont get why sometimes you will have 7 boosts and sometime you may just use 1 and the next one you cant take? What is it that controls that?

When that happen I lose my patience because it keeps doing that on each game so I give up stop playing and try the next day, which result the same thing happens or that I get about 3 then it stops again.
