The BLEASS Alpha Synth is a virtual analog polyphonic stereo synthesizer inspired by classic analog synths and enhanced by the BLEASS’ very own musical and technical approach.
The Alpha is a highly versatile Synthesizer that aims at bringing new ways of designing and playing an infinite constellation of sounds in the iOS music making universe.

The BLEASS Alpha Synth offers many features that all musicians and producers alike will enjoy using in their music making process:

SIMPLE & INTUITIVE INTERFACE: follow the direction of the audio signal : design your own synth sounds by tweaking each panel, from left to right.

VISUALISE YOUR SOUND : thanks to its user-friendly visual filters, sliders, LFOs and envelopes, quickly understand how to design your own presets.

CPU EFFICIENT: how many times have you experienced crackling sounds while making music in the studio or on stage? The BLEASS Alpha Synth aims at offering a smooth & steady experience on iPhones and iPads, whether used as standalone or as an Audio Unit (AUv3) into your favorite DAW.

A UNIQUE MOTION SEQUENCER inspired by modular synthesizers brings a new dimension to your pads, leads and sequences by offering a large amount of rhythmic and expressive modulation possibilities and which can be coupled with the arpeggiator.

Not super but okay.

One big problem

The app keeps running in the background, draining battery and needlessly shortening the lifespan of the device (since the battery tend to be the bottleneck, the first thing than eventually makes the device useless). Some (but not most) plugins do this, and it's instant one star from me, no matter how good the plugin is otherwise, because it's a terrible app behavior. Advice for everyone: check the battery section in settings to find out which apps do this. Sometimes an app keeps running for weeks in the background and becomes the #1 drain on battery (you get info on this) despite not being used at all. Bad for you, bad for the environment. Don't allow app to waste this energy.

Update: the proposed solution doesn't work, but I've mailed the developer, maybe it'll be resolved, stay tuned. For the record, it's otherwise a fine plugin, just like their other ones.

Hi!

Indeed, the Alpha Synthesizer runs in the background by default, when you use it in standalone mode. It is a normal and intended behavior, as otherwise, you would not hear any sound while switching to another app, which would be a deceptive behavior for a professional synthesizer (i.e. for live performance or in even in the studio).
Also, note that if our app was draining battery more than normal, the App Store team wouldn't have validated it at all! On the contrary, the Alpha Synthesizer offers great CPU performance in comparison with other iOS Synthesizer.

Yet, you still can deactivate the background refresh mode of the app by simply going to your general settings: go to BLEASS Alpha, uncheck the background refresh.
