With its friendly approach and awesome updates, Duolingo’s long been one of our favourite apps for learning another language. Its secret: making the process genuinely fun. Engaging mini-games test your reading, writing and speaking skills, and joining a club (where you can encourage and compete with others) adds a great social element. Bonus: all those languages and games are available for free!

Best app ever

I'm learning Japanese on the subway and love every minute of it. The app is so well made, encouraging and adaptive to me as a learner.

The problem with +plus+

It is depressing to look at this app and then remember the good 😌 old days of Duolingo when premium (duolingo plus+) was not a thing. Now you have for example 5 hearts, that means that if you break them then you’ll not be able to learn (play) Duolingo for a period of time. There are thousands of language learning apps that have a premium version of them and Duolingo wasn’t one of them in the past days. Now that Duolingo has a premium version I have totally lost hope of the team.
Duolingo gets therefore 2 stars ⭐️⭐️ and that is because they had a good past and introduced me to the Swedish language and Sweden 🇸🇪 when I moved here 6 years ago.
