Hokusai is a multitrack audio editor for iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. Record or import a track, and make it sound the way you want it to: not just trimming the ends, but full cut, copy, paste and delete, and a suite of filters and special effects available. Select pieces of audio. Live "scrubbing" means you can hear the sound under your fingertip as you make your adjustments. And you needn't fear a bad edit with our full undo/redo support — even after closing your project. Hokusai comes free with a set of useful tools such as fade in/out, normalise volume levels, reverse time, and basic synthesis. If you need more power, you can upgrade from inside the app to add new tools and effects, including: Per-track volume/mute/panning, selecting across multiple tracks at once, presets and favourites, grain synthesis, noise gating, time-stretching, pitch-bending, echo, reverb, modulation (AM & FM), resonance, distortion, grunge, vocal levelling, monster voice, high/low/band-pass/notch-cut filter and more — many of which can be previewed live.

This is perfect in its simplicity! Excelent tool for anyone who wants to make audio recordings in to a format, that it can be learned and memorized. I am very satisfied to find such app, after so much hopeless searching in between “music industry” “complications” . Differentiation between copy/paste and insert silence for a needed period of time is genuine.

This app has completely changed the way in which I can work with audio, allowing me to do things I could only imagine before and presenting me with an assortment of tools I didn't even know existed. If there is anyone out there who, like myself, has spent years and years searching for a good audio editor which is accessible to VoiceOver users, stop looking! You've just found it! This app has completely changed the way in which I can work with audio, allowing me to do things I could only imagine before and presenting me with an assortment of tools I didn't even know existed. I am so grateful to you for the features you've included in Hokusai, for its simplicity, for its user-friendliness, for its impressive panel of effects and, above all else, for the care you've taken to ensure that blind and sighted can enjoy the fantastic experience of recording, mixing, cutting, copying, pasting and distorting sounds on entirely equal terms. Edit September 2020: even my new iPad with plenty of space get this red band with a space warning. I’ve had it, app is deleted and replaced with Auditor. Can’t recommend this but say there are other options. Being told that annoying warnings that can’t be turned off are there because users don’t know what they’re doing lowers the rating. Also the effects are plenty but not very good and therefore not usable e.g reverb and delay which is what most would want to use in production is crap. Fewer and better would be a smarter approach.

I use this app for transcribing recordings as part of a university course and it works great! It has all the feautures I need to make a detailed transcription. I think the interface is well thought through and the overall design feel modern and nice to use. Absolutely recommend it!
