Description

Tēnā koe! Nau mai, haere mai!

Welcome to DIA's Māori cultural app Tai Ako.

Ako means "to learn" or "to teach" which represents the reciprocal nature of these concepts. Tai means “tides” and reflects the tides of learning that we all go through, each of us starting at different levels. We’ve created this app to be an effective resource and rallying point to support you in learning more about important aspects of Māori culture under the mantle of Te Tari Taiwhenua - The Department of Internal Affairs.

At Te Tari Taiwhenua, our purpose is to serve and connect people, communities and government to build a safe, prosperous, respected nation. Through doing so, it’s our aim to help make Aotearoa New Zealand better for New Zealanders.

We’ve included information on te reo Māori, tikanga and waiata, to help you understand more about our unique and shared cultural heritage. However, please note that some protocols differ from place to place.

This app aims to increase your knowledge and confidence within a Māori context. It is a tool to give you insight into the Māori world and use in your everyday mahi.
