Description

From Theodore Gray comes a beautifully produced app introducing and educating users on the elements of the periodic table and how they combine to form the world around us. The Elements is a rich and engaging love story, told in words and pictures - allowing you to experience the beauty and fascination of the building blocks of our universe in a way you've never seen before.

Start off on a living periodic table where every element is shown with a smoothly rotating sample. To read about gold, tap the gold nugget. Immediately you see the sample filling the screen, photographed to razor sharpness and rotating around a complete circle in front of your eyes. Enjoy the extensive array of facts and figures. Next find a fascinating story about the element, surrounded by carefully photographed objects representing it. Every one of these objects, well over 500 in total, is a freely rotatable, live object that you can examine from all sides and pinch zoom to see in unprecedented detail.

Touch the element name at the top of the page and you can see that element’s name in over a dozen different languages. Choose one and you’ll find that the entire book, stories, captions and all, switches to that language: The Elements includes both the full English original text and over a dozen full translations.

Pinch-zoom or tap any object to bring it up full screen, where you can split into a pair of stereo 3D images, allowing you to see all 500 objects pop off the screen in 3D, and you can spin the objects, in 3D, with the touch of a finger.

This book will show everyone there’s a lot more to the periodic table than a bunch of numbers and letters.

Features include:

• Beautifully composed pages for every Element in the periodic table
• Fun stories and fascinating facts
• All objects pinch-zoom with amazing detail and rotate in 3D
• Engaging introduction explaining the structure of the periodic table
• Engaging introduction explaining the structure of the periodic table
• Fully translated into English, Catalan, Croatian, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish

Hampus Lidin ,

Great app, but...

...I'd really like it translated into Swedish.

RandomSausage ,

Very pretty but... simple things missing.

Thank you for your developer reply.
I think my frustration is founded in
the idea that i thought this would be good for my child(10) and myself.
I now see this is just not for children at all.
When we look up Oxygen for example, it is not very friendly to see how many electron shells there are, unless you are perhaps
already a scientist. [He]2s.....
there is a VERY VERY small picture of the electron shells. If we do a screen shot we can enlarge this tiny picture and count the amount of electron shells.
Not very friendly.
Why not just say how many electron shells there are? in a CLEAR language understood by all.
I will make my review a little less negative
but how about making either
1 A completely new app for normal people and children.
or...
2 updating the app for a little more friendliness.

Regarding the Molecules App
Why if i enter into the search field...
Oxygen
Nothing turns up?
Im sorry but i just don’t understand this.
Why is such a basic thing missing.
Are there no oxygen molecules?
I did get a reply from the developer. This is good and shows interest. I hope they can grow from my comments and gain more stars ⭐️

Developer Response ,

Hi RandomSausage. Sorry you're both a little confused. To get the most from the app it's a good idea to read the app, ideally starting with the introduction. Even though it's tempting to dip in and out, you'll find you get a lot more from it if you read it from start to finish.

The atomic number of Oxygen is 8. Oxygen gas exists as O-O two atoms of oxygen bonded together - better known as dioxygen or O- subscript 2. It still has an atomic number of 8. We hope this resolves your issue, if you’re satisfied it has, would you consider revising your review?

UPDATE: Many thanks for your feedback, RandomSausage, we will certainly take it into consideration, but please do recognise that this app is not designed for children at all.
