Best game in the series!
FOTS (Fall of the Samurai) är så gott som ett helt nytt spel, även om det grundar sig på "Shogun II - Total War”. Handlingen är flyttad till 1800-talet, det finns nya klaner, nya vapen och helt nya förutsättningar för att sköta spelet - till det positiva!
Bland annat så har man en hel del nya byggnader och industrier gjort sitt intåg. Strategidelen och byggande av provinser har blivit lättare och vissa begränsningar som kunde uppfattas som störande (bland annat försörjningsaspekten/food) i 'Shogun II' är borta. Istället för att man spelar på kvartalsbasis med årstidskiftningar som i 'Shogun II’ så grundar sig FOTS på månader. Därmed blir utvecklingen av klanen/familjen inte lika viktig som i ’Shogun II’. Du hinner knappt gifta bort några av dina barn och har i princip samma Daiymo (länsherre) genom hela din spelomgång.
Möjligheten att flytta trupp via tåg när man har byggt järnvägar och sjöslagen är oerhört detaljerade och imponerande med pansarskepp och ångfartyg. Salvor och kanoner är dominerande till land och funkar faktiskt riktigt bra. Gammalt möter nytt i en fin harmoni.
Kartan är bekant, men till utseende radikalt annorlunda. Jag tycker att den ser bättre ut i FOTS än i det medeltida Shogun II genom att den faktiskt är mer realistisk. Bergen och färgerna är något mer orealistiskt ”sagobetonade” i och pastellglada i Shogun II - möjligen en hint till dåtida sagor/kulturella influenser, medan FOTS har en mer dämpad kulör och berg av en höjd som nästan skulle kunna motsvara Google Maps.
Det har blivit 1800-tal, industrialismen och kameran har gjort sitt intåg.
Stort plus även för det historiska kampanjspelet där man spelar igenom ett antal historiska slag och uppdrag som inte är helt lätta.
Som helhet är spelet mer dynamiskt och tidsepoken (Japan 1860-tal) är idealisk för omfattningen av spelet. Tips: skaffa 'Shogun II' först, spela igenom det, och krön det sedan med att ge dig på FOTS. Absolut det bästa i serien!
