A great image editor at a decent price

Affinity photo does 95% of what most people would want in an image editor. It is ICC-profile aware, supports layers with all the useful adjustments like colour balance, curves, levels, lens filters, gradient maps etc., and has sensible defaults for auto-adjustments. There’s a nearly complete set of tools for photo adjustments, including a healing brush, dodge & burn, an erase brush, a clone stamp tool and many others.

I’ve been using AP for a few weeks now to retouch old scanned film, and processed camera raw images, and it has worked for most of my basic editing needs. My workflow has become quick and intuitive with AP.

Unfortunately, support for Photoshop-style plugins is still not properly functional. One of my plugins doesn’t launch, and the other doesn’t work as expected. I still keep another application called “PhotoLine” that works perfectly with the photoshop plugins I need for some critical workflows, but I hope plugin support improves to the extent that I can make do with just Affinity photo for all my editing needs.

Overall, a product with great potential, one that allowed me to ditch all Adobe products. 4/5 stars until they deliver proper support for photoshop-style plugins.

Love Affinity Photo, still not able to replace photoshop

When i purchase affinity photo, i was thinking to replace photoshop. After use it for a week i love the interface and performance, but it does not offer Smart Layer capabilities. which most my mockup files not able to be use in affiliaty photo.
Is really wonderful photo editing program, I like the layout of editing tools but that is still a needs for me to use photoshop.

I really hope Affinitly photo will added (Smart Layers) functions in the future.

Thank you for your review. Smart Objects have been requested previously and we would like to support in the future. In the meantime, they will be rasterised on import.

Astoundingly Good!

There is always a lot of talk of finding a Photoshop (PS) replacement. Adobe have restrictive and draconian pricing for their products and with good reason: they are simply the best. I have been using Photoshop for over 15 years and have been “wow-ed” by each and every release. The addition of LightRoom (LR) simply made things better. LR and PS work so well together because PS basically demands LR as a companion for those who do heavy-duty photo post processing. It is a match made in heaven.

I have tried a lot of different alternatives including favourites such as GIMP and Pixelmator. They are great pieces of software. Stellar in fact. But none of them come even close to PS in terms of sheer power.

I grit my teeth to buy this software. Why? Because it is just SO SIMILAR to PS. That is, in and of itself, the highest praise available. With this payment you are finally able to own software of such high quality again. Not rent (under Adobe’s current pricing schemes). Own. You will be very glad that you bought this. It is basically photoshop (there are no tools that I have not been able to find yet - even PS plugins work!!) with some delightfully simplified UI touches. In addition it has some aspects of LR thrown in for good measure. Setting an accurate WB is much easier than in PS and making lighting and colour adjustments is wonderfully simple. Don’t get me wrong, PS still wins in terms of sheer clout, but this comes as close as anything I have ever seen.

This software is inexpensive, polished and easy to learn if you are familiar with PS. RAW files import seamlessly and if you are stuck in an Adobe environment you can still export and import everything as PSD files. I highly recommend this software for anybody who loves Photoshop but is just falling behind because of the sheer cost of such an expensive utility. Get this software and then use the money you save to go out and buy another lens. You know you want to!
