What’s New

Version 16.5.0

We've updated the Money screen so you can easily find the new service to pay for gaps in your National Insurance record.
We also fixed a bug that was making it hard to scroll through the Contact screen, and an issue where service names weren’t displaying properly at larger text sizes.
Last, but not least, we added a link to let you tell us if something is wrong on a PAYE summary screen for a previous year.

Very unclear communication

I live abroad and the only way I can effectively get Tax related messages is via the app, email, or my HMRC account. It is always really unclear when I have payments due, and I have been stung by penalties that have grown because I wasn’t aware of them thanks to this awful communication.
This is especially frustrating as I get numerous generic emails from HMRC all the time, but never seem to get notified when there is something specific relating to my account.
The whole thing is really poor, and is a joke compared to the excellent system in Singapore where I currently live and work.

Developer Response ,

Hi. We apologise if you feel the app doesn't do everything you would like it to and we thank for your feedback.

Both the HMRC app and your Personal Tax Account will tell you how much you owe and when payments are due, but it would be up to the individual to keep up to date with their own self assessment.

If you are unsure about payment dates and self assessment in general, please see this link https://www.gov.uk/pay-self-assessment-tax-bill

Please note, you are able to set reminders for Self Assessment payments within the HMRC app so this may help you going forward.

Many Thanks
HMRC App Team
