IPadOS 16 ruined everything!
IPadOS 16 ruined everything I liked about Apple Books - From the immersive page flipping experience (where you could actually half turn a page and see the page behind it, as if flipping pages of a real book) to the organisation system provided in the app itself feeling more clunky (The old organisation system was simpler and less troublesome to work in my opinion) , to the bookmark being an inconvenience to use now (having to open up the menu and then click bookmark, rather than it just being at the top right corner of my page).
Small details like this are an inconvenience to the reader and just overall make the reading experience less pleasant.
However I am a fan of the new customisation system when it comes to choosing the font, font size and background. This new system feels slightly more modern and even gives “Presets” which is great if you don’t like the hassle of finding the perfect combo yourself.
I really hope they fix this soon! I am really disappointed and hope these changes eventually get reverted/modified to make the experience more enjoyable like it once was.
Remove Bookmark Double Tap
As the title says, double tapping for the bookmark function is making the app really difficult to use for users using the app on scroll mode. I keep adding bookmarks every couple of scrolls and it’s incredibly annoying to get the haptic feedback and the large red icon in the middle of the screen. Did Apple even conduct a usability test for this?? I wonder how this problem could be missed as it happened once I started scrolling on the app. Saw reviews starting from a couple months ago also giving feedback on this issue but it still hasn’t been fixed
Love the interface
Very aesthetically pleasing! and the font of the whole app makes it seem very put together!
however a suggestion to make it even better is to add stats so instead of just the reading goal and reading streak. i think it can be expanded more by improving reading streaks- let us see overview in the week/ month/ year and also show how much screen time we spent reading with overview too and the average. i think books app should take a leaf out of the health app, sleep section. i like the idea of showing us more stats and data about our reading habits! more motivating
