Sketchbook‪®‬ 4+

Very comprehensive toolset, allows resizing of brushes and text. Have yet to explore all of the tools, but so far it’s incredible. I like the patterns toolset very much.

Not particularly excited about the export mode though, where it combines all layers and therefore doesn’t allow you to edit individual layers once it’s combined. Also I’ve found the app to be slightly laggy when moving between layers, so much that I’ve accidentally deleted wrong layers before.

Overall, nothing that can’t be fixed. It’s a really easy app to use, not a steep learning curve.

I’m new at using the iPad to draw stuff, but when I was trying out the apps and iPads in the store, I found the widely championed Procreate really hard to use. I had no idea where most of the options were located, I felt that the interface was pretty unintuitive to new users. Adobe sketch was better, but it caps at 20 layers max. And then someone on Twitter mentioned sketchbook was going for free, so I got a friend who owned an iPad Pro to download it for me to try and BOY, I FELL IN LOVE. Now I’ve gotten my own iPad and I’m using sketchbook to draw. It’s going great! Transitioning from desktop/ tablet was pretty easy. The great thing about sketchbook is how intuitive managing and manipulating the settings of the various tools are, because of its streamlined design. But of course, it comes with the natural con of limitations: I can’t make folders to group my layers, and I can’t save, make new brushes and create a brush pallet to store my favourite brushes (though I believe the desktop version is able to do this). These are the main two issues that came up for me so far. Still, fantastic app, and something I would greatly recommend to use for art :)
