Great and helpful app
If you are in a troubled or dark time in your life, definitely recommend to use this app to seek help. I can’t say anything negative about my experience with this app. Keeps you completely anonymous and you can feel safe with conversing with the respective counselors. Again just a great app especially in this day and age.
not a bad idea but possibly poor execution
i find that this initiative would be great for those who really need someone to talk to but are not great with communication/confrontation. but the app itself is poorly executed with there being a trophy system for “my favourite subjects” and one of the subjects being suicide. i find that its rather thoughtless to be putting a trophy on something as tragic as suicide itself. and this is more of a stop-gap option rather than a full counselling session with chats being limited to 30 minutes and possibly getting different counsellors each time when you want to start a chat. its not the ultimate solution but its akin to the SOS hotline. if you’re someone with a complex case/problem, i would recommend possibly searching for online counselling without video on etc rather than this as its rather surface based
Developer Response ,
We here at SomethingNew understand the nature of your censorious feedback, and we acknowledge its well-intentions.
There will be huge degrees of expectations across the age demographics we serve, and we navigate between pleasing and ensuring needs are met.
We are aware of the limitations of the app, and we note your opinion that some things we place on the app maybe thoughtless. We admit that the aesthetics maybe left wanting, but we leave it to our help-seekers to discover the heart of our service through their experience in the chat with our counsellors not just the appearance.
We also emphasize that at this point the services we provide are highly accessible round the clock and at no cost.
We have to take this opportunity to share that within the sphere of counselling, there are ethical rules in place for personal safety by statuary boards to ensure that although rapport is built, we must avoid a dual-relationship forming, hence as you reproved, “possibly getting different counsellors each time when you want to start a chat”.
On that note, with a 25 mins limit, we advocate immediacy whereby both the user and counsellor will be involved to engage without either party being left without a response. We care for the emotional bandwidth of our counsellors; hence these are perimeters we set due to feedback we have received from wholeheartedly users, and it is a delicate balance between a critique’s feedback and the needs of our user base.
We are aware of how feedback may come across as brusque and impassioned, so we find it in ourselves to take the positives.
We appeal to those who are reading that if you are seeking help, please seek the services you resonate most with, because this is what therapy is all about.
We remain here to receive you should you seek SomethingNew~
Very Helpful App
This app really helped me through a rough patch in my life, when I really had no one to rely on. The fact that the conversations are anonymous really helped as it made me more comfortable to talk to a stranger about my problems. The councillors are very accepting and willing to talk at any time. Overall, a very good and well thought out app!
