The crying need for fact based reporting
The Economist always prides itself as a newspaper.
If this is a statement of fact, in addition to the Economist’s views of events that unfold in the world’s stage - which is typically left leaning and liberal, there needs to be a section that just reports events the way it is, as it unfolds, without adding any color to it.
Old legacy app was simpler but better for reading
I’ve been switching back and forth between the new app and the legacy app. But I keep going back to the legacy app for one simple reason:
I like to read the economist leisurely during my free time, which means I read it cover to cover in a few sessions. The old app always opens on the last article I read, making it easy to keep track.
The new one just opens on the home page, and pushes the “top stories” or “morning briefing” and I’m sorry, but it annoys the hell out of me. For the latest and breaking news, I have different sources/apps. Now I have to navigate through all this noise just to get back to reading my magazine.
I will stick to the legacy app as long as possible or until this is fixed.
Has gotten slower
I thought it was my phone that caused the app to be slower but I just bought a new phone and the app is still slow and less responsive than you would expect. Other things to improve:
1. Navigation - it’s messy to be able to switch between editions.
2. Watch - The watch controls for switching to next article on the audio listening mode have been replaced by controls to move forward or backward by 10 seconds. This is undesirable. The left control should be for going back by 10 seconds and the right control should be for switching to the next article.
