What’s New

Version 5.17.6

It was absolute bedlam in Union Station last week, as thousands upon thousands of Swifties swept into Toronto for a shot at seeing Tay-Tay in the flesh. As we darted between bedazzled cowgirl boots and a choral rendition of Shake It Off so loud it was literally setting off our iPhone earthquake detectors, we wondered why on earth we had bothered to visit Canada’s busiest underground subway station on its busiest day of the year. Ah yes.

To test our new underground subway detection feature.

Hello, GO Underground!

- No GPS required: we can now detect when you’re on an underground train
- How? Just by using your phone’s vibration sensors!
- The feature works in 50+ cities with subways and metros
- Just tap GO to start your trip
- We’ll show your predicted location on the map, count down the stations, and update your ETA!
- No more craning your neck to look for subway maps, or losing track of where you are when you lose cell service underground
- Best of all? This feature works 100% offline, directly on your phone
- That’s right. No data is even sent to our servers, bless.

For more details on how this feature works, read how our engineering warlocks used vibrations to find your stations: blog.transitapp.com

That’s it from us…

…besides plenteous bug fixes, duh.

PS: Rate us 5 stars with your favourite Taylor Swift song and we’ll add it to our Christmas party karaoke playlist.

Editors’ Notes

Lots of apps can offer driving directions—but what if you’re not driving at all? That’s where Transit comes in. The travel planning app shows you how to get from point A to point B via train, bus, rideshare—and now even bikeshare and scooter. The app will seek out your best route, offer a few alternate options, and let you know how long you can expect to be in transit.
