Verbling: Learn a New Language

We love language learning apps, but often the best way to really get the hang of a new language is real-time conversations with other human beings.
If you don’t happen to have a native speaker of your chosen language handy, Verbling has the answer. It connects you to a global network of language teachers who’ll take your speech to a whole new level via the magic of video chat.
Verbling doesn’t just cover the more familiar languages such as French, Spanish and Italian. It actually covers more than 40 different languages including Russian, Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese, with over 2,000 registered tutors.
Each tutor is a native speaker of that language, although in a nice touch you can also see what other languages tutors can speak – something that’s useful if you’re already fluent in one language and want to find any common ground between it and the new one you’re learning.
The Verbling app is free but the tutors charge for their time: these are professional people who teach for a living, so you can be sure you’re getting high quality tuition.
Many tutors offer trial lessons so you can get a feel for their teaching style, but the lesson prices are perfectly reasonable and you get something that real-life tutors don’t tend to deliver: lessons that come to wherever you are, no matter where in the world you happen to be.
