Description

A Stunning New Productivity App For Today’s Distraction-Filled World.

What is Portal?
Portal is a productivity app that uses immersive technologies to transform your surroundings into a haven for focus and creativity.

So, it’s just another productivity app, right?
Well, not exactly. It’s a totally new approach to productivity that’s shaped by the latest research in the field of environmental psychology which focuses on the impact our surroundings have on our state of mind, wellbeing and cognitive performance.

Why are our surroundings so important to our productivity?
It’s no secret that our surroundings have a huge impact on how we think and feel - it’s something architects and urban planners have understood for centuries. The surroundings in which we work are no different. Whether we’re working in an office, from home or in a coffee shop our surroundings can either support or hinder our productivity. When they work against us they make focus and productivity an uphill struggle, leading to longer hours, stress and low morale. However, when we are in surroundings that are attuned to helping us think and focus clearly the effect is profound.

How does Portal work?
Portal uses the latest immersive technologies, including dynamic (head tracked) spatial audio, smart lighting & retina-quality visuals, to transform your surroundings and provide instant escapes to some of the world’s most peaceful and awe-inspiring locations.

Imagine finding your focus in the midst of a thunderstorm deep in the Amazon Rainforest; making your next big breakthrough high in the Himalayas; or getting lost in flow in the remote Highlands of Scotland.

It’s a beautiful and effortless approach to productivity, but also one that’s incredibly effective and backed by a growing mountain of scientific evidence and research.

Who is Portal for?
Ideal for entrepreneurs, digital & creative professionals, students, but really anyone who finds being productive and creative a struggle in today’s distraction-filled world.

Join us on a journey to better surroundings, and experience a productivity app like no other.

Editors’ Notes

How can an app about sound look this gorgeous? Portal is part immersive audio experience and part travel companion, a way to lose yourself in lush audio environments from all corners of the globe, all through a cool minimalist UI and stunning HD visuals. Focus, study, or snooze to downpours in the Amazon, lapping waves from the lochs of Scotland, whale song from the deep blue waters of Tahiti, or thunder on the Great Plains. Tap a sound and the app transforms into an aesthetically pleasing clock; set a timer to drift off to sleep to winds on the Isle of Skye or wake to a springtime chorus in London. Bonus: Pair compatible AirPods to experience it all in spatial audio.

Subscription ripoff.

Why? In app purchase is not enough? Subscription cancer! Btw: lot of free nature sounds around internet, in podcast, on yt… so nothing special here worth of our money, especially monthly.

Developer Response ,

Hi somrak, we're sorry to hear our current pricing doesn't working for you.
We do understand that subscriptions aren't for everyone. We're a small and proudly independent team building and funding the app ourselves. We believe it's this independence that has allowed us to create an app that's truly different from others in the immersive experiencew we deliver, but we're only just getting started and have big plans for the future - next up for us will be broadening our smart lighting support options to include Nanoleaf and Homekit, as well as introducing spatial audio enabled portals which we're planning on releasing in the next few months. We believe remaining independent will help us to take more creative risks, be more ambitious and continue to build an app our customers love and we can be proud of. The problem is building an app that is tech forward is incredibly expensive and often only undertaken by corporations or startups with huge budgets or investment - especially if like us they're doing all of the filming and content production themselves with cinema-quality equipment and large dev teams. We also refuse to include ads in the app or collect and sell our customers' data to marketing business which further reduces our options for funding the development. The subscription pricing is a way to allow us to keep pushing the app's development, integrating the latest technology and continually invest in content production in a more predictable and sustainable way than we've previously been able to do. Whilst not everyone's cup of tea, we hope it will allow us to create a better app for our customers and it's aimed at those who regularly (every day or every week) benefit from using Portal for which we hope our pricing is seen as reasonable, relative to other comparable apps, for sleeping more soundly, focusing more effectively, or relaxing and reducing anxiety.

We're conscious that our pricing structure is less attractive for those who use Portal less often and are not looking for the immersive experience Portal offers, so please rest assured that we are keeping an eye on other options that we may be able to offer to ensure the broadest access possible while still allowing us to continue the development of the app. For now we've tried to maintain a freemium offering of 6 portals which are available for free to anyone that downloads our app, with all features (focus timer, breathing exercises, Philips Hue integration, ambient wakeup alarm etc) currently unlocked - so whilst our current subscription might not be for you we do hope that you might consider using our free portals and hopefully still enjoy the positive benefits that we hope Portal provides. We really do appreciate your feedback as we're always keen on taking onboard any suggestions to help us improve. If you have any other thoughts please do feel free to contact us at hello@portal.app we would love to hear from you. Best wishes, Nick.
