Description

The kARtka z Synagogą is a journey to the destroyed synagogues thanks to the AR.

Our augmented reality (AR) application is dedicated to the sensitive documentation and dissemination of the destroyed Jewish cultural heritage, recognizing its significance as an integral part of European history. By leveraging the familiar, analog medium of the postcard, we transform this traditional communication tool into a dynamic carrier of information and architectural visualization. This innovative approach seamlessly blends well-known communication media with advanced digital technologies, aiming to reach and educate a broad audience.

Initiated in 2018 at the Architecture Institute of Hochschule Mainz, this project stands as a testament to the institution's commitment to preserving and honoring Jewish cultural heritage. Through a collaborative effort with diverse partners from Germany and Poland, the project continues to evolve in both teaching and research environments. These partnerships enrich the project with a variety of perspectives and expertise, ensuring a comprehensive and respectful representation of the heritage we aim to preserve.

Our AR application offers users an immersive experience, allowing them to visualize and interact with reconstructions of historical sites and artifacts that were lost. This not only fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of Jewish cultural heritage but also serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving history for future generations.

The use of postcards as a medium is particularly meaningful. It connects the past with the present, offering a tangible link to history while utilizing modern technology to enhance the storytelling experience. Each postcard becomes a portal to a different time and place, enriched with detailed AR visualizations that bring history to life in a way that is both educational and emotionally engaging.
