Long Division
The Long Division app has been featured by Apple in "New & Noteworthy", "Math - Numbers & Operations", and in "Math Apps for Middle School". Educational App Review (iear.org): "This app is fantastic!!"
Partial Quotients Division
The traditional long division method can be difficult to understand because it is so abstract. In the partial quotients method the student can make a series of estimates and then add the estimated quotients together.
Long Multiplication
In arithmetic, long multiplication is the standard procedure suitable for multiplying numbers. The method breaks down a multiplication problem into a series of easier steps.
This universal app is part of a set of idevbooks math apps. Reviewed by Wired.com: "A Set of Excellent iPhone Math Apps for the Older Child”.
Partial Products Multiplication
The partial products multiplication method is a two-step process. In the example 39 x 24, each place value is first multiplied separately. The partial products are added and 36 + 120 + 180 + 600 produces the answer 936.
R. Zeni, Ecole Sandy Hill Elementary: "These math apps allow students to practice and reinforce the specific computation strategies taught in class, with as much or as little scaffolding as necessary. They also provide individualized feedback to each student, with an immediacy that is not always possible through pencil and paper practice. Being able to adjust the level of difficulty to suit their needs is also very motivating for the students. I am so glad to have come across this great educational tool!"
Column Addition
Tim Pelton, assistant professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Victoria: “Because no wrong entries are allowed the app provides a passive form of positive reinforcement and your child will likely improve in both confidence and competence with respect to the procedure.”
Partial Sums Addition
The partial sums addition method is a two-step process. In the example 764 + 340, each place value is first added separately from left to right. The resulting addition 1000 + 100 + 4 produces the answer 1104.
Wired.com: “Esa Helttula’s apps are all fantastic for math learning and practice, and aren’t cluttered with mini-games, incentives, or annoying music.”
Column Subtraction
Tim Pelton, assistant professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Victoria: “Because no wrong entries are allowed the app provides a passive form of positive reinforcement and your child will likely improve in both confidence and competence with respect to the procedure.”
Decimal Rounding
This math app can be used to teach and study the rounding of decimals. You can set your own problems or solve random problems. The decimal numbers can be rounded to nearest whole number, tenth, hundredth or thousandth. They can also be rounded to 0, 1, 2 or 3 decimal places.
Whole Number Rounding
This math app can be used to teach and study the rounding of whole numbers. You can set your own problems or solve random problems. The numbers to be rounded can have up to 8 digits.
Privacy
The apps have no ads or in-app purchases and they do not transmit any data during the operation of the app. The apps also do not contain any links to other apps or the web.
Videos
Dozens of videos of these and other apps can be found at idevbooks.com.
