Description

The CheckDEC mobile app is provided for free by the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children.

The app connects children, families and communities to legal or illegal substance misuse resources, services within their local own community. Users can select from a variety of categories and sub-categories to find the specific resource or service specific to their need. The resources are a combination of links, downloadable content and videos. This powerful app puts a multitude of impactful resources and services, within minutes of the users’ location, in the palm of their hands. Children are the first ones affected by parent or caregiver legal or illegal substance use and the last ones helped. This app connects children and families to help today.

Users can submit their own real-life story, message of hope or support via video or text. This peer-to-peer sharing can be powerful, encouraging and may change the trajectory of lives.

The app also connects multidisciplinary professionals who are in contact, care or supervision of children who are have a parent or caregiver in legal or illegal substance use with resources, services and information. Professionals can share and download information regarding substance abuse and share resources with the children, families and community they serve or where they live.

A comprehensive news feed provides children, families, communities and professionals with up to the minute news about substance use, prevention, services, research, statistics and data, where to find help and much more.

The app provides videos and links for engagement, encouragement and hope for children and families in challenging substance use situations.

Phase 2 of the app will launch September 2022 with additional content, tools and training.

The National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children teaches early identification, response and appropriate intervention services to children and families affected by parental or caregiver substance misuse. We equip comprehensive, multidisciplinary alliances, communities, organizations and individuals with access to our national resource center, trainings and technical assistance. Our vision is 100% healthy, safe children, families and communities free from the negative impact of substance misuse and drug activity.
We define drug endangered children as children who are at risk of suffering physical, mental or emotional harm as a result of parent or caregiver legal or illegal substance misuse.
They may also be children whose caretaker’s legal or illegal substance use interferes with the caretaker’s ability to parent and provide a safe and nurturing environment.
