Road Warriors

Action-packed racing game

VIEW

The retro and the futuristic collide in Road Warriors, a 2D side-scrolling racer.

One-touch controls are the core of this game – your car accelerates, zooming up hills and over bridges, without your guidance. All you have to do is tap to jump, avoiding blockages on the course, or hold to flip.

You’re rewarded for driving with flair, so a perfect vehicular loop-de-loop wins you a boost. Pulverising rivals likewise: you’ll tap passing vehicles to fling missiles at them. But an awkward landing robs you of speed and shields. No prizes for colliding with obstacles either, so stay vigilant for that flashing DANGER! sign.

There’s no playing fair in Road Warriors.

Rewards for slamming across that finish line include coins and spare parts, to spend on upgrades. There are loot boxes too, disgorging modules you’ll use to customise your machine. You can switch out four different segments of your car, plus respray it or replace the driver.

Take out your opponents at opportune moments.

You begin playing as the beaky Cluck, but conquering opponents in the primary challenge enables you to draft them in too. As well as the Galaxy Map where these denizens lurk, waiting for a thrashing on the alien asphalt, there are daily challenges. These offer new multi-stage races every morning, and you’ll see your performance ranked against friends and the world.

The pixel art style, platform-style levels and wailing soundtrack by Shannon “Pongball” Mason deliver an experience as much about old-school charm as about sci-fi speeding. Buckle up, Road Warriors is quite a ride.
