TONALY: Write & Practice Songs
Chords, Scales & Progressions
Has your songwriting stalled? When you make music, it’s all too easy to fall into a rut: you pick up your instrument or reach for the keys and your fingers fall on the same old places, playing the same old chords. Wouldn’t it be great if you could suddenly write in an entirely new musical language?
That’s what TONALY delivers. It’s a wonderful tool for songwriters and musicians: simply pick a key and a scale and it’ll show you the chords that will sound good with each other.
You can then combine them and play them back to play along or export the results in MIDI format for use in your favourite music app.
It’s beautifully designed with a sober colour palette that makes it easy to tell the difference between major, minor and diminished chords. It even shows you how to play the chords on piano.
It’s hard to overstate how much fun this app is. Within seconds of picking it up we were messing around with unfamiliar scales; a few minutes later we’d written a brand new tune containing chords we’d never heard of before, let alone played.
TONALY is a brilliant tool for any musician, but it’s particularly good for those of us who thought Mixolydian was a Pokémon.
