Few things push the human body to its limits quite like space travel. Astronauts go through a lengthy training process, ensuring their physical and mental health can endure the tremendous stresses of going into space. While you may not be planning to blast off in a space shuttle, taking a leaf out of an astronaut’s health and wellbeing book can be beneficial to your life here on Earth.

GetFit has created a fast workout and workout plan inspired by professional astronaut training – based on a typical inflight exercise regime, you can expect moves such as push-ups, sit-ups and air squats to target cardio and muscle fitness, and lots of reps.

No equipment is needed, but you’ll definitely feel the burn. Here’s what to expect.

The Fast Workout

The seven-minute Fast Workout is perfect for maintaining your physical fitness level or gradually building up strength on a daily basis. Expect lots of bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, squats and lunges, as you focus on boosting your cardiovascular system and muscle toning. You’ll be completing moves in circuits, with some jumping exercises thrown in along the way and 15 seconds of rest in between each move.

The Astronaut Workout Plan

For something a little more ambitious, join GetFit’s Astronaut Workout Plan, which is designed to prepare you for a highly demanding environment. This is an intense exercise programme with 21 workouts; rest times are gradually reduced as the intensity increases. Start with 15–20 minute circuit workouts and move on to 30–40 minutes; each session is focused on specific muscle groups, such as the core, back and legs. Movements such as burpees and plank variations challenge a greater number of muscles, helping you burn more calories and promoting greater athleticism.

Both the Fast Workout and the Astronaut Workout Plan require a subscription to GetFit.
