Grab your headphones! The only way to survive this gripping audio-only adventure is to listen closely. Although there are few visuals in Sonar Islands, the game’s raucous jungles and rumbling volcanoes spring vividly to life—entirely through sound.

What we love: Just the beeping of your compass guides you as you search for treasure across dangerous islands. Listen closely to safely tiptoe around bubbling lava, defend yourself from swarms of buzzing mosquitoes, and avoid drowning in rushing waters. And each isle poses its own perils, from the falling debris on Temple Island to Treetop Island’s howling winds.

Quick tip: Don’t miss getting competitive! While traversing the open seas, you’ll raid other players’ islands—and skirt the traps they set for you. Lay a few traps of your own to keep your island safe from intruders.

Meet the creator: Hansjörg Mikesch cofounded the Austrian games studio Mental Home to create games for blind or low-vision players—and everyone else. “Games that are played by listening have to be different by design, from the ground up,” Mikesch says. “Players who join us on this adventure find themselves in a richer world, off the beaten tracks.”
