What inspired me to build xaround?

Campus confessions are typically hosted through Facebook Pages. Fellow students create a page for their campus as a medium to connect students on their campus. Students use these pages to anonymously share their opinions, secrets, relevant news, and many more with others on their campus. However, since Facebook Pages is not meant for hosting confession platforms, the page administrators and its followers both face their own unique problems.

Page administrators’ problems include: (1) risk of accidental reposting of unlawful content, (2) page taken down by the Facebook staff for violating Facebook’s Community Standards, and (3) continuously reposting content submissions. Meanwhile, the page followers' problems include: (1) wait for the page administrators to repost their submission, (2) receive fewer responses from others due to privacy concerns in the comment section, and (3) publish new separate posts in order to respond to a specific post anonymously.

We propose a new platform for hosting campus communities through a mobile app for greater accessibility from anywhere. The main focus is overcoming the problems stated above, making more campuses available, and providing a superior user experience. Users may participate in the app development discussions through an exclusive forum in the app to help designing the ideal platform together. Unlike Facebook Pages, xaround is built to host campus communities optimally – more than just a confession platform.

What’s New

Version 1.0.4

Hey all, another update from me!

I'm very happy to present you with this latest update which I've been diligently working on for the past week. I'm super grateful to those that care enough to report bugs they've found – a couple of them actually crashes the app! Ops...

What's new:
1) Full GIF support for the post. Choose "Photo" mode when creating a post and select your desired GIF from your camera roll.
2) Automatically start GIF animation when it is visible and stop when not visible to minimize your device's memory usage.
3) Added new actions for posts with GIF: (i) Copy Imgur Link, (ii) Open in Safari, and (iii) Save GIF to Photos.

Bug fixes:
1) App crashes and become completely unusable when a new user follows and subsequently unfollow a campus. This glitch fixes itself when another new user performs the same action. Upon investigation, the bug was found in the new user registration which writes the document identifier incorrectly to the database.
2) App crashes when tapping the "Done" button when writing a comment. This is a very easy fix, I overlooked the linking of the button to the view.
3) Text limit for writing a report doesn't work which means you were able to technically submit a textbook worth of text, haha.
4) Viewing the post's title doesn't work when writing a comment (accessible through the eye icon).
5) Mislabeling the remaining character count of title text when editing the post.

Minor improvements:
1) Redesigned the comment cell for a much cleaner look and better readability.
2) Distributed the spacing between the buttons nicely in the post cell so that it will look great on all screen sizes.
3) Added more categories when reporting a post or comment. Also added one more category for "Report Issue" and "Give Suggestion" respectively.

The next update will include a new feature to reply to a comment (nesting your reply directly underneath the comment, similar to Twitter, Facebook, and others). If you found a bug or wish to chat with me, email or Discord me. My contact info can be found in the app Profile > Settings > About.

Thanks for reading! If you love the app, tell a friend or two. This app will be more fun and useful with more people. Anyways, enough rambling for me hehe. Happy weekend and take care! :))
