Legacy version, please upgrade to Tweetbot 3 for Mac instead.

Tweetbot is a full-featured OS X Twitter client with a lot of personality. Whether it’s the meticulously-crafted interface, sounds and animation, or features like multiple timelines and column views, there’s a lot to love about Tweetbot.

Multiple Timelines. Quickly switch between your lists as your main timeline.
Multiple Windows and Columns. Display timelines from different accounts side by side.
Notification Center support.
Beautiful Retina graphics.
Mute filters lets you block messages from users without unfollowing them. You can also mute hashtags and specific keywords.

Legacy version, please upgrade to Tweetbot 3 for Mac instead.

What’s New

Version 2.5.8

On August 16th Twitter will disable parts of their public interface that we use in Tweetbot. Because Twitter has chosen not to provide alternatives to these interfaces we have been forced to disable or degrade certain features. We're sorry about this, but unfortunately this is totally out of our control.

- Timeline streaming is now disabled. Your timelines will now refresh automatically every 1-2 minutes instead.
- Notifications for Mentions, Direct Messages, Follows and Follower's Tweets will now be delayed by a few minutes.
- Notifications for Likes and Retweets have been disabled.
- Activity tab has been removed.

"$20 for a Twitter app"

Well, why not. If it's something I use everyday and well-supported, it should definitely worth paying $20 for. And Tweetbot is. The app is polished as one would expected from Tapbots that created one of the best Twitter client for iPhone and iPad. The ability to transform the app into multi-column make it even more useful since it could replace Tweetdeck for many use case. The app is fast and polished, it quickly became my Twitter application of choice.

Now the bad parts: it don't support global shortcut, there's no menu-bar only mode and a way to setup a shortcut to trigger the main window which means you're left with focusing the app only via Cmd-Tab. As beautiful as the app is, it feels very alienate from the rest of the system. This visual style works in iPhone and iPad where the app is dominant on the display screen, but on OS X it is one of the multiple window on the screen and Tweetbot visual style become out of place very easily. Next is the lack of "Connect" view as existed on Twitter website and some clients, you can't easily see the whole picture of who interacts with you (follows, retweet, etc.) without enabling notification, which is not persisted.

Despite all the flaws and its relatively high price, I still found Tweetbot to be vastly superior to the official client and it quickly become my primary Twitter client of choice. It could be a bit cheaper, but its high price should be thanked to Twitter per-API key restriction that limits Tweetbot user to only 100k. This is something that we should petition Twitter for.

not so impressing
