Description

Martial arts is the art of the moment. The dynamics of martial arts may be captured, but only in a fleeting moment. If no records are left, or the master does not explain clearly, or even if he does not know how to explain the details of each body part, the apprentice can only guess the principles behind the movements.

This time the plan is to make a breakthrough attempt - using motion capture technology to record the movements of various martial arts masters, and publish them on the e-learning platform after analysis and processing. With the help of technology, Lingnan martial arts can be conveyed in visual form, making the teaching process more accurate, and the same data can be transformed into new media creations for visual or performing arts. Motion capture technology was a key technology used in this project. Since the Chinese Martial Arts Federation and the School of Creative Media of City University of Hong Kong established the Hong Kong Martial Arts Living Database (HKMALA) in 2012, we have extensively used motion capture technology to record Hong Kong’s martial arts heritage.
