*Pretext's theme now follows the system setting for Dark Mode. The in-app purchase now unlocks fixed themes, if you always want light or dark enabled regardless of the system theme.

Clean and simple interface but

Hello. I like the app as it can give markdown preview in a simple interface. but there are two minor problems. 1. The application cannot open the self-created markdown files with files app integration, but there is no problem when importing. 2. Where can I see keyboard shortcuts in the application. I use VoiceOver. or is there an accessibility issue?

USEFUL, PRACTICAL, FREE

For markdown files I used Ulysses for a long time and really enjoyed it, until they switched to a subscription model. I insisted to stick with Ulysses for a one year subscription. However, since many app developers started to apply the subscription model, I started to HATE the SUBSCRIPTION MODEL and I had to find a viable alternative to Ulysses. Other main problem with Ulysses is it locks your files in its own database. This is a huge problem for those who would like to access their files from outside of the database. Then I started to regularly search the AppStore for a feasible alternative to Ulysses. The only importing thing to me was the ability to edit my markdown files on the fly via Apple’s Files app integration.

Finally I found the perfect markdown editor for my needs. It’s PRETEXT. There are no useless features, just basic markdown support with syntax highlighting. Keyboard shortcuts are added bonus. There are some features needed to be improved such as html rendering does not work well with some special characters such as “ş, ç, ö, ü, ğ, ı”. However, I basically don’t need to export my .md files to .html so this is not a problem for me at all. A feature suggestion may be the inclusion of markdown commands row on top of the on-screen keyboard for those who write without a bluetooth/magic keyboard. Other than mentioned above I could not find a gripe; it just works as is. No bulls**t, no ads.
It’s FREE and does its job. If you want a dark theme you have to pay a VERY SMALL FEE. This is literally a very very low amount when compared to other so-called distraction free fancy markdown editors.

I definitely recommend PRETEXT for those who seek for a useful, practical and FREE markdown editor.
