Tiltification 4+

Tiltification equips your phone with a spirit level that allows you to level objects precisely and easily by an auditory signal. The acoustic changes give you a clearly recognizable feedback on how your object has to be moved in order to be leveled. The auditory feedback is more precise than a physical spirit level with an air bubble in liquid. It also provides feedback for two axes. Furthermore, the app doesn’t require looking at it during the leveling. This serves multiple purposes, but especially the following:

Imagine leveling a table. Place your phone with Tiltification on top and listen to the constant auditory feedback, while you are under the table to adjust the legs.

Or setting up your caravan on a camping site. Place your phone with Tiltification on a surface that is supposed to be even inside the vehicle. Listen to how the acoustic of the app changes while adjusting the support legs.

Photos should be taken straightly. You can run Tiltification in background mode while you use the camera. The auditory feedback will tell you when you hold your phone straight.

Also athletes might find Tiltification useful. In order to lift weights straightly, a phone with the app installed can be attached to the barbell. It will give constant feedback on if the weight is lifted evenly.

Tiltification is produced by the master project “Sonification Apps” in winter term 2020/21 at the University of Bremen. Sonification refers to displaying data in an auditory form. The target of this project is using sonification to give accurate information on spatial orientation. The spirit level app is an example to illustrate how sound can be used to achieve this.
