Asteroid incoming! Flip your phone. Now! Gary, I SAID NOW!”

Having just yelled that, it’s safe to say we’ve become really involved in playing Spaceteam. While many games put you in your own little bubble, Spaceteam is different. It puts you in social situations and will have you screaming at your friends as you frantically jump from one foot to another, urging them to be better.

That’s because this co-operative game is all about playing together. Not online, but in the same room. You’ll need at least two of you to play, eight at most, and after you all download the app, and sync your devices via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, it’s time to save your spaceship from exploding.

It’s not the most visually engaging game, but it doesn’t need to be. Design plays second fiddle to the enthralling gameplay. As you attempt to complete the commands rushing towards you on your individual control panel, you'll be filled with a mixture of excitement and stress.

Some of these commands will relate to the controls on your unit. Most, however, won’t. They’ll be on your friend’s unit, and that’s where the collaborative challenge lies. You’ve got to call commands to your friends while they call others back at you.

The more players you have, the more frantic things get. And that’s great. You’ll start with chaos, but quickly fall into a more controlled, methodical approach that will have you crowning yourselves masters of the universe. Or at least until the pressure starts to ramp up.

Then it’s back to madness and at least one friend (you know which one it will be) getting far too involved and screaming at the group to activate the Infrapiston or switch off the Gyroclapper.

It’s usually at that point that an asteroid will threaten your mission and you’ll hear that panicked cry and Gary will be at the brunt of your frustrations once again.
