Good teaching flow, really bad interface design
The app seems to be good to create a good flow of work, just the experience is really bad, as you never get into that flow due to app/screen design flaws.
Many flaws:
1. Often the filed you write into is hidden by the on screen keyboard (iPad Pro 11“)
2. ever so often the play button or spoken words are dead, you do not hear anything as sound would be of on your device, but the click sound for next works… so sound works, it is simply not playing it.
3. Every time the app wants you to write something, you ALWAYS have to tab the one and only field you want to write in. Why not have the cursor in there to begin with?
4. When using an external keyboard (apple keyboard/case from Apple on iPad), the tones do not update on screen, so then often not giving you all options you need to write the correct tones when going to next question.
5. what brings me to another issue: The tones provided never show all. Lets say the answer needs an ǎ. It will provide you only ǎ and one or two additional option with a. But not all options. so it gives you hints what take away from actually learning them. In addition the tones then are always on a different position, again making you search and not learn the tones and its position. Not 1 to 4 as they are described in any Chinese Learning book and/or app.
there is a clear distinct way to say Tone 3 and that is the ˇ ǎ ě ǐ ǒ ǔ character… but this app does not teach you in any way what tone is 1th / 2th / 3th / 4th. This is the one and only APP I found that does not do that.
6. Support only tries to find flaws on your end… What can you do wrong, not them needing to update their app.
I have been asked even if I would use an external keyboard,… Well any app I have works with my Eternal Keyboard. EVERY APP!!!
Tell me to update my I OS (is always up to date), reinstall the app and stop using external keyboard and check your intertnet.
Not one other APP I use gives me any issue and all they do is pint to you.
This is also the most amount of money I ever spend for an app… and it works the worst
