Description

The Twenty-Four Solar Terms were officially included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016.

The twenty-four solar terms were originally formulated based on the rotation direction of the handles of the Big Dipper. During the period of Emperor Wu of the Western Han Dynasty, the twenty-four solar terms were included in the "Taichu Calendar" as a supplement to the calendar to guide farming. Tugui was used to measure the sun's shadow in the Yellow River Basin to determine the day with the longest shadow and the shortest day as the winter solstice. The winter solstice was regarded as the "two days". The starting point of the "Fourteen Solar Terms" is to divide the period between the winter solstice and the next winter solstice into 24 equal parts. The time between each "solar term" is equal, and the interval between each solar term is 15 days.

In the Yellow River Basin, by observing changes in celestial phenomena, temperature, rainfall and snowfall, and animals and plants, a set of time guidelines suitable for life and production in farming society were derived, which were gradually adopted throughout China. People arrange traditional farming, festivals, folk activities, and the daily necessities of each family according to the twenty-four solar terms, which profoundly affects the Chinese people and is an important carrier of the cultural identity of the Chinese nation.

The twenty-four solar terms play an important role in traditional Chinese culture. They have had a profound impact on the Chinese people's clothing, food, housing and transportation for thousands of years, and are full of Chinese poetry and painting. It is an important part of the long history and culture of the Chinese nation. In 2016, the Twenty-Four Solar Terms were officially included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Our App clearly displays the dates of the 24 solar terms each year through the calendar. The origin of each solar term and related folk activities are introduced in detail. And there are relevant ancient Chinese written records to explain the relevant solar terms.

We gave twenty-four solar terms and carefully created twenty-four traditional Chinese paintings. Pictures suitable for the screen size, as well as high-definition pictures of paintings, are available for download, so you can enjoy them or set your favorite works as screensavers.

On non-solar days, we also provide a number of ancient Chinese poems for you to enjoy, and provide pinyin for easy spelling. Ancient poems will lose their charm after being translated, so we do not provide translated ancient poems. If you are interested, you can check them out by yourself.

We hope to provide you with a different batch of carefully created Chinese paintings every year. More ancient poems, as well as versions in more languages, can be enjoyed by all those who love traditional Chinese literature in the world.

Please turn on the notification function to ensure that you can get news a few days before the solar term arrives.
