Ratings and Reviews
Editors’ Choice
One of our favourite apps for learning another language, the process is genuinely fun. What’s more, all those languages and games are available for free!
It’s really great
Duolingo is one of the best language-learning apps available today. It makes learning a new language fun, engaging, and accessible to everyone. The app uses a gamified approach with short, interactive lessons that help users build vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation skills step by step.
One of the biggest advantages of Duolingo is its ease of use. The app is intuitive, and the lessons are designed to fit into a busy schedule. Whether you have five minutes or an hour, you can always squeeze in a quick lesson. The variety of exercises—including listening, speaking, reading, and writing—keeps learning dynamic and interesting.
Another great feature is the streak system and achievement badges, which motivate users to stay consistent. The ability to compete with friends or join leaderboards adds an extra layer of motivation. Plus, the app offers a wide range of languages, including popular ones like Spanish and French, as well as lesser-known languages like Welsh and Hawaiian.
Of course, Duolingo isn't a complete replacement for more in-depth language study, but it's a fantastic tool for building a strong foundation and practicing daily. The free version provides a lot of value, and the premium option (Duolingo Super) removes ads and adds extra perks.
Overall, Duolingo is an excellent choice for anyone looking to start learning a new language or maintain their skills in a fun and convenient way. Highly recommended!
No grammar rules written, a lot of ads, rigged timed challenges
I use Duolingo for the Spanish course and already’ve learnt a lot of words, which is great, but the app is become harder and harder to use.
After latest ‘learning path’ update there are no grammar rules in separate place (like it used to be under the lightbulb icon), or it’s just hidden somewhere/not available for free users?
The ads are annoying and shown literally after every successfully passed lesson. Like okay, I can’t pay for the Duo premium for now, I don’t need you to show me how much do i lose 20 times a day in the same cartoon with the holographic owl, i know the words from it to my heart now.
Timed challenges are fun at first, but they make you to spend a lot of diamonds, and last levels are physically impossible to pass without boosters. In ‘match madness’ sometimes cards are shown too slowly for you to pair it in times, or you click on card and an app doesn’t count it in and you lose your time. This is obviously dark pattern, I couldn’t believe it at first, but then caught with my eye, when the word on the left side is already active, and pairing word on the right is sloooooowly appearing and you could successfully choose it from, like, 3rd attempt. I understand that this app offers a lot even for free version, and you need to make money, I’m just disappointed in such cheap methods.
